Project Lead the Way Problem solving using engineering principles

In 2009-2010, Caddo Parish Schools (CPPS) launched new programs at Captain Shreve High School and its feeder Youree Drive Middle School that encourages and challenges students in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) disciplines. Project Lead the Way® (PLTW) began in New York State in 1997 and has been adopted by 3,500 schools in all 50 states. PLTW is an activity-driven approach to learning that encourages students to solve problems on their own or in groups.

  • Youree Middle School (Grades 6-8)

PLTW Modules Include: Gateway to Technology
Curriculum activities: Design and molding, automation and robotics, energy and environment, flight and space, science of technology, and the magic of electrons

  • Captain Shreve High School (Grades 9-12)

PLTW Modules Include: Pathway to Engineering
Curriculum activities: engineering design and modeling, engineering processes and technology systems, and digital electronics. Captain Shreve has an engineering magnet program. PLTW students do not have to be enrolled in the magnet program, although most are.
