BioStart Boot Camp
Preparing Students for a New EdVenture

When evaluating the first year of the BioStart Internship Program, the project planners discovered that the incoming students needed additional preparation before they started working and conducting research in a medical research laboratory. In the summer of 2010, the two-week BioStart Boot Camp was launched. The Boot Camp provides an orientation for the rising high school seniors with training in laboratory protocol and safety, LSUHS policies and procedures, and a refresher in basic laboratory techniques. After completing the Boot Camp, the BioStart students feel much more comfortable working in a large medical center with the laboratory team and with their mentor.

This program is open only to students who have completed the first three years of the Biotechnology Magnet Academy.
